No, as someone who's used Flash, that makes you sound lazier. See, this means you did not manually animate thousands of symbols by frame; rather, you programmed thousands of movie clips (or maybe a few which duplicated themselves) to swap frames & change transparency.
At least, I'm assuming the darker green is just 75% alpha. I don't know how to tint in AS.

This is compared to the hard work, of manually / painstakingly animating each individual symbol, frame by frame, which would take several months to complete and thus makes you less lazy.
Also, I want your code. =P

Haha Well actually what I did was I created 2 flagged frames on a single movie clip that drags out

! - being flagged frame
* - being normal keyframe
a - being action scripted frame
_ - being a frame

(!)(*)_______(a)(!)(*)________(a)

Basically on the flagged frame it was a bright letter and the frame after it went darker. the frames after that were just delaying till the switch of the next number, where the actionscripted frame had a gotoAndPlay to a random flagged frame (each holding a different number).
When they change number it goes brighter for a second then goes dull.

Then these individual movie clips were just copy pasted to a grid, having a random number effect.

Oh, and the dulled keyframes should be flagged as well, so if the number randomly switches to itself again, it shouldn't turn bright.

;P Thought I'd give you a lil challenge to re create it.

Hm. Seems a bit inefficient if you ask me...
However, I'd like to know- how do flagged keyframes work? Actually, never mind. I have Google.
